She also paints a well-fleshed portrait of a woman who would serve as the catalyst for some of the most significant changes in English history, as the relationship between Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII would sow the seeds of change that would give rise to the Reformation and all the uncertainty and tumult that would follow.The book begins with the year 1526, by which time Anne Boleyn had been dismissed from the court of King Henry VIII. Severed from her first true love, Henry Percy, heir to the earldom of Northumberland and scion of one of the most powerful families in all of England, by order of Cardinal Wolsey, Anne had been cooling her heels at Hever Castle for the past year, while Percy was forced into marriage with another. Anne languished at Hever Castle with her family, not knowing that all this had occurred at the behest of Wolsey's master, King Henry VIII, in a fit of jealous pique. So, it was Wolsey who incurred her bitter enmity.When King Henry VIII rode into Hever Castle, he eventually mades his way into its lush gardens, where he encountered Anne Boleyn. There, he found himself once again smitten by her charms and discovered that they had a mutual love for music. The King found himself enamored of this intelligent and vivacious young woman, only to have Anne lead him a merry chase, and a long one at that. This is an interesting historical novel that, while based on facts, fills in some details of what it could have been like in the sixteenth century love life of England's King Henry VIII. The book is well done, the characters are realistic, and the story is easy and enjoyable to read.

I’ve read quite a few books on Anne Boleyn and this one had a different prospective. I liked it well!

I love this book but my last one got so worn out and the dust jacket was ruined. This copy is also rather old but in good condition with only one tiny tear in the jacket. Thank you it is a well conditioned book that got here in two days!

I enjoyed this book, but as I was reading, I kept wishing the writing were better. The verbs were all over the place, and it started to plod after a while. The author did a pretty good job of Anne being seductive and catching the king's attention to spite him, but by the end it was really lackluster, like the romance-well, she did keep him dangling for 6 years! I was surprised by how passive she was at the end.I also have to say, if you have ever seen the film Anne of the Thousand Days, well, now I know where they got the script from. The trouble is now, though, that there does not seem to be anything new about 'history's most glorious troublemaker'. This book was published in 1957 and it just keeps being repeated in various ways by anyone who deals with Anne historically, or fictionally.Still, it is a good way to pass the time and will be enjoyed by everyone bitten with 'Tudor-mania.'

Good historical detail. Written well in regard to understanding the many personalities involved with Queen Elizabeth. I liked the insight into several characters that were overlooked in other novels.

I loved the book, since I have seen the movie The Tudoelrs (3) Times. I lime the Renaissance Era.
